Gérard Boudot, owner and wine maker of Domaine Sauzet, described the 2012 vintage as: "one of the most difficult and without a doubt gave the smallest harvest since I began in 1973..... The acid balance is good and the pHs are slightly higher than in 2011. Overall I like the 2012s and they should drink well young thanks to the excellent concentration and mid-palate fat."
Domaine Sauzet is a highly acclaimed producer of white burgundy specifically their amazing range of premier cru and grand cru wines. The La Garenne is a beautiful representation of the refined, fresh and noble stature of a premier cru Puligny Montrachet.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (RP): 89-91
"The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne comes from the estate’s 0.8-hectare parcel close to the hamlet of Blagny. It has a pretty bouquet with hints of white peach and passion fruit at first, though with aeration this ebbs away to reveal stony, Alpine stream scents. The palate is crisp on the entry with pithy fruit combining well with the citrus and bitter lemon. There is a fine edginess here with a touch of lemongrass lining the spicy finish."
Stephen Tanzer (ST): 88-90
"Full, slightly hazy yellow; looks thick! Deeply pitched aromas of peach nectar, pineapple and licorice, plus a hint of lime. Then highly concentrated and chewy on the palate, but with a faint bitter edge to the fruit. This youthfully aggressive wine will need time to refine itself and gain in precision."
