Wishing to express the very best of the exceptional terroir, the domaine only uses grapes from its oldest vines for Clos des Forêts Saint Georges as old vines give darker, more intense wines.
A wine of great power and precision, combining the classic properties of the Clos des Forêts with the prominent fruit and lively energy typical of the 2011 vintage.
The Clos Des Forets 2011 is a deep, ruby-red wine presenting with intense, ripe black cherry aromas with hints of spice (pepper) and an intriguing wild side.
Full-bodied and rich on the palate, with a good length of flavor and a strong, savory finish.
Burghound (BH): 91-93
"A brooding but notably ripe nose of dark cherry and pungent earth aromas slides gracefully into strikingly rich and tautly muscular big-bodied flavors that possess praiseworthy concentration. There is plenty of underlying tension and energy to the mouth coating and very serious finish that displays only a touch of rusticity. This is potentially outstanding but note that it will, as is usually the case, require plenty of bottle age."
Stephen Tanzer (ST): 90-92
Bright, deep ruby-red. Sexy aromas of black cherry, licorice, menthol, cardamom and coffee/mocha torrefaction. Firm and light on its feet, with black cherry fruit given pungent lift by crushed-stone minerality. The Clos de l'Arlot is more expressive in the mouth today but this one communicates a strong impression of tightly coiled calcaire energy (here the rocky layer is close to the surface). Finishes with very suave, fine-grained tannins and noteworthy lift. Should evolve gracefully in the bottle.
