Cellar/Tasting Notes
The 2011 Bonnes Mares is a wine of great distinction, with a powerful yet refined perfume of violets and red berries and a finely balanced, fruit richness on the palate. The subtle tannins carry into a prolonged finish.
The wine will pair wonderfully with delicate dishes not too spicy (red meat in sauce, cheeses). Burghound (BH): 91-94 "A moderately toasty nose fights somewhat with the spicy plum, cassis, warm earth and game suffused aromas. There is a plush mouth feel to the big-bodied and muscular flavors that display a discreet minerality before terminating in a firm, vibrant and quite serious finish. This extremely rich effort seems more forward than it is thanks to the abundance of tannin buffering dry extract so patience will be required." Stephen Tanzer (ST): 91-94 "Good full red. Highly nuanced nose combines blueberry, licorice, pepper, spices and wild herbs, along with an almost medicinal pungency characteristic of this grand cru. Utterly primary on the palate, with uncompromising dryness to the flavors of black fruits and crushed rock. Tannic and youthfully tough today, but this is still recovering from the racking." |
