Bourbon maker Bulleit's new, exciting entry into rye whiskey is a welcome development. Most distillers don't indicate the percentage of rye; here they say it loud and proud. The 5 percent balance is malted barley. The grains are sourced from Germany, Sweden and Canada. The aging in charred white oak barrels has given the golden-amber whiskey unique complexity, persisting in the mouth, yielding to a smooth, mellow finish.
The high rye content gives the whiskey a spiciness which continues to the long velvety finish lingers. Perfect consumed straight or in cocktails.
