Some consider Riesling to be the finest white wine grape ever, even surpassing Chardonnay. It makes the finest German wines, and can be dry, semi-dry or sweet. Excellent examples also come from Austria, Australia, and New York State. The best examples have a perfect balance of fruit and acidity, which makes perfect to pair with Asian cuisine. Like Pinot Gris/Grigio, Riesling can be one of the bargains in the wine world, and like Pinot Gris it needs careful selection.
