Fine Wine > 90-92 Pts > Nebbiolo > $100-200

Even crankier and touchier than Pinot Noir in terms of the soil and climate it prefers, Nebbiolo is also capable, in Barolo, of equally brilliant heights. It is the grape of Piedmont's Barbaresco and Gattinara and the source of lighter reds from Valtellina in Lombardy. The aroma and taste profile traditionally associated with Nebbiolo is violets; rose petal, dark fruit and anise also spring to mind. As it is a grape that thrives in sunny climes, consumers can find Nebbiolo-based wines from Australia, California, New Zealand, South Africa, Mexico and Argentina, though for the moment they are not easily found outside their home countries.

Cavallotto Barolo Riserva San Guiseppe 2004 750ml
|   WA: 92-95   |    WS: 94   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"The 2004 Barolo Bricco Boschis Riserva San Giuseppe is darker and firmer than the Vignolo, but not necessarily more complex or pedigreed. A dramatic baritone voice prevails, as layers of ripe dark fruit blossom on the palate in a powerful expression of Barolo that is likely to require extended..

La Spinetta Barolo Campe Piedmont 2007 750ml
|   WA: 95   |    IWC: 94   |    WS: 91   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"This is a superb set of wines from Giorgio Rivetti. The 2008 Barbareschi are among the strongest wines of the year, while the 2007 Barolo Campe is the best wine to emerge from Rivetti’s vineyards in Grinzane Cavour. The La Spinetta style focusing on wines of great textural richness remains intact,..

Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Romirasco Bussia DOCG 2006 750ml
|   WA: 92+   |    IWC: 95   |    WS: 97   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"The 2006 Barolo Romirasco offers up a refined bouquet of spices, menthol, plums, prunes and French oak. This is an especially rich, sensual Barolo from Conterno. The Romirasco spends an additional 3-4 months in oak than the other single-vineyard Barolos, and in 2006 the wine seems especially..
