Fine Wine > Bordeaux > Bordeaux Blends

Usually based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Bordeaux Blend wines can include some or all of the following: Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. (The Bordeaux grapes Malbec and Carmenere are now rarely used in Bordeaux or in Bordeaux Blend's generally, except in South America.) Bordeaux Blends can also refer to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which is common in St Emilion and Pomerol.

"Austere wine, its tannins pushing forward to give power and structure. It is dense, concentrated, with layer upon layer of bitter coffee and dark fruit flavors, acidity and sweet tannins."

Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 2002 1.5L Magnum
|   WA: 93   |    IWC: 94   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Dense purple to the rim, this wine exhibits the classic cassis aroma that is so characteristic of Mouton. Medium to full-bodied, tannic, powerful, and cut somewhat from the 1988 mold, this is a backward, chewy, well-endowed Mouton-Rothschild that will require considerable patience from those who..

Chateau Lafite Rothschild Premier Grand Cru Pauillac 2006 750ml
|   WA: 97   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"2006 Lafite Rothschild is a great, great wine made from a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. When I tasted it from barrel, it reminded me of their successful 1988, but it is dramatically superior to that vintage. Frankly, it may turn out to be as good as the 2005,..

Chateau Margaux Premier Grand Cru Margaux 1990 750ml
|   WA: 100   |    WS: 98   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"I had this wine both in Seoul, Korea in February, and from my cellar in December, 2008, and it was remarkable how identical the wines smelled and tasted. It offers an extraordinary aromatic display of spring flowers, camphor, sweet red and black fruits, a hint of licorice, and no evidence of its..

Chateau Latour Pauillac 2007 1.5L Magnum
|   WA: 92+   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"The 2007 Latour (the first wine made in the newly renovated cellars) exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet, expansive bouquet of black fruits and spring flowers interwoven with a striking minerality. The wine’s dense, medium to full-bodied flavors are surprisingly evolved, with..

Chateau Latour Premier Grand Cru Classe Pauillac 2000 750ml
|   WA: 98   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"There are only 14,000 cases (only 48% of the crop made it into the grand vin) of the 2000, which flirts with perfection. Truly great stuff, it reveals perfect equilibrium, great finesse, yet colossal size, with a thickness and density that rival the brilliant 1996. This saturated black ruby/purple..

Chateau Margaux Margaux Premier Grand Classe 2000 750ml
|   WA: 100   |    IWC: 98   |    WS: 100   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
RP: "The 2000 has turned out to be a colossal example of Chateau Margaux that is tasting even better from bottle than it was from cask...90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The 2000 possesses a saturated ruby/purple color to the rim as well as an extraordinarily promising nose of creme de cassis..

Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 1996 1.5L Magnum
|   WA: 94   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"This estate's staff believes that the 1996 Mouton-Rothschild is very complex. I agree that among the first-growths, this wine is showing surprising forwardness and complexity in its aromatics. It possesses an exuberant, flamboyant bouquet of roasted coffee, cassis, smoky oak, and soy sauce. The..
