Fine Wine > Still > Spain > $0-20

In the past 15 years no European wine-making country has undergone such a leap forward in the variety and quality of its wines as Spain. Barely 20 years ago it was a challenge to find Spanish wines in the US from beyond Rioja; today Spanish wines from over a half dozen regions are available. Today, wine names like Mencia, Penedes, Riberera del Duero, Yecla and more are becoming much better known and appreciated. It's also heartening that this wine renaissance is being achieved largely with native Spanish grape varieties. Among the big changes are improved techniques in vine cultivation and vinification, allowing these formerly lesser known regions bring their wines to a grateful and appreciative international audience.

Telmo Rodriguez Dehesa Gago Toro 2011 750ml
|   WA: 90   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"The 2011 Dehesa Gago eschews oak - the wine is just put in the tank and then racked. It has a straightforward bouquet of blueberry, red cherries and a touch of balsamic that is well-defined and 'pert.' The palate is quite succulent and primal on the entry with lush blueberry and cassis notes. It..

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"The 2009 Celeste is 100% Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero aged for 12 months in French and American oak. It offers up an already complex nose of cedar, exotic spices, incense, lavender, espresso, and blackberry. This is followed by a supple, spicy, ripe, layered wine that will evolve for another..

Descendientes de J. Palacios Petalos 2010 Bierzo 750ml
|   IWC: 91   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Dark ruby. Ripe red- and blackcurrant aromas are complicated by anise, cola and sexy oak spices. Soft dark berry preserve flavors gain minerality and firmness with air. Zesty cherry skin and mineral notes carry through a long, gently tannic finish."
