Fine Wine > Bordeaux Blends

Usually based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Bordeaux Blend wines can include some or all of the following: Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. (The Bordeaux grapes Malbec and Carmenere are now rarely used in Bordeaux or in Bordeaux Blend's generally, except in South America.) Bordeaux Blends can also refer to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which is common in St Emilion and Pomerol.

Figeac 2009 St. Emilion 750ml
|   WS: 97-100   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Really fabulous on the nose, with sweet milk chocolate, flowers, currant and plum. Full-bodied, with incredible length. The tannins are so silky, but they are warm and cuddly. You just want to hug it. Powerful but so attractive. The blend is one third each of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet..

"This is actually a younger, more concentrated wine than the 1990. A dense plum/garnet color with a slight lightening at the edge is followed by a sensational Figeac nose of mint, fruitcake, Asian spices, gobs of sweet black and red fruits, and a smoky component in the background. Medium to..

|   WE: 95   |    WA: 98   |    IWC: 94   |    WS: 97   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"With its aromas of new wood, spice and black fruits, this promises from the start to be a powerful, polished wine. It is dense, very ripe (from the high percentage of Merlot in the blend), but still packed with tannins. It's a massive wine, bringing together the heat of 2003 with the big tannins..
