Fine Wine > Still > Bordeaux Blends

Usually based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Bordeaux Blend wines can include some or all of the following: Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. (The Bordeaux grapes Malbec and Carmenere are now rarely used in Bordeaux or in Bordeaux Blend's generally, except in South America.) Bordeaux Blends can also refer to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which is common in St Emilion and Pomerol.

Chateau Margaux Margaux Premier Grand Classe 2000 750ml
|   WA: 100   |    IWC: 98   |    WS: 100   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
RP: "The 2000 has turned out to be a colossal example of Chateau Margaux that is tasting even better from bottle than it was from cask...90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The 2000 possesses a saturated ruby/purple color to the rim as well as an extraordinarily promising nose of creme de cassis..

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Ornellaia 25th Anniversary 2010 3L
|   WA: 97+   |    AG: 97   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Poured from the special anniversary bottle, the 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a truly outstanding wine that leaves a lasting memory for those who are lucky enough to enjoy it. What stands out is the absolutely seamless-seamless-seamless (yes, it's worth repeating three times) integration of..

Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 2010 750ml
|   WA: 98   |    JS: 100   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Only 49% of the production made it into the 2010 Mouton Rothschild, which has a strikingly beautiful label by Jeffrey Koons. This is a truly great wine, with a very high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (94%) and the other 6% Merlot. At 13.9% natural alcohol, Mouton?s director, Philippe Dhalluin,..

Haut Brion Pessac Leognan 2006 1.5L
|   WE: 96   |    WA: 96   |    IWC: 95   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"A severe, austere wine that doesn’t show its richness easily. The tannins are tight and firm and they dominate. Underneath is ripe fruit, the balance with tannins giving a foursquare, solid character. The wine is complex, spice playing with the fruit, some medicinal flavors and a definite..

Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 2002 1.5L Magnum
|   WA: 93   |    IWC: 94   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Dense purple to the rim, this wine exhibits the classic cassis aroma that is so characteristic of Mouton. Medium to full-bodied, tannic, powerful, and cut somewhat from the 1988 mold, this is a backward, chewy, well-endowed Mouton-Rothschild that will require considerable patience from those who..

La Mission Haut Brion Pessac Leognan 2006 1.5L
|   WA: 94   |    WS: 95   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"A somewhat under-the-radar La Mission, the 2006 was generally overlooked following the brilliance of the 2005. A young, dense purple-hued wine that is developing beautifully, it exhibits notes of Asian plum sauce, charcoal, barbecue smoke, roasted meats, graphite and background oak. Full-bodied..

Chateau Latour Pauillac 2007 1.5L Magnum
|   WA: 92+   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"The 2007 Latour (the first wine made in the newly renovated cellars) exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet, expansive bouquet of black fruits and spring flowers interwoven with a striking minerality. The wine’s dense, medium to full-bodied flavors are surprisingly evolved, with..

Chateau Margaux Margaux 1995 1.5L
|   WA: 95   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Bottled very late (November, 1997), the 1995 has continued to flesh out, developing into one of the great classics made under the Mentzelopoulos regime. The color is opaque ruby/purple. The nose offers aromas of licorice and sweet smoky new oak intermixed with jammy black fruits, licorice, and..

Haut Brion 2005 Pessac Leognan 1.5l Magnum
|   WA: 98   |    WS: 100   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Another profound effort from Haut-Brion, the 2005 (a 9,000-case blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc) has bulked up to the point that it is fair to compare it to the great successes of 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2000. A dark ruby/purple color is followed..

Cheval Blanc St Emilion 2009 750ml
|   WA: 99   |    WS: 98   |    JS: 99   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"It will be fascinating to follow the evolution of the 2009 Cheval Blanc versus the 2010 as well as the awesome 2005, 2000, 1998 and 1990. This famous estate’s vineyard is situated at the juncture of Pomerol and the sandy, gravelly soils of St.-Emilion, facing the two noble estates of..
