Fine Wine > Bordeaux Blends > France > Bordeaux

Usually based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Bordeaux Blend wines can include some or all of the following: Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. (The Bordeaux grapes Malbec and Carmenere are now rarely used in Bordeaux or in Bordeaux Blend's generally, except in South America.) Bordeaux Blends can also refer to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which is common in St Emilion and Pomerol.

Chateau Latour Pauillac 2007 1.5L Magnum
|   WA: 92+   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"The 2007 Latour (the first wine made in the newly renovated cellars) exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet, expansive bouquet of black fruits and spring flowers interwoven with a striking minerality. The wine’s dense, medium to full-bodied flavors are surprisingly evolved, with..

Chateau Margaux Margaux 1995 1.5L
|   WA: 95   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Bottled very late (November, 1997), the 1995 has continued to flesh out, developing into one of the great classics made under the Mentzelopoulos regime. The color is opaque ruby/purple. The nose offers aromas of licorice and sweet smoky new oak intermixed with jammy black fruits, licorice, and..

Haut Brion 2005 Pessac Leognan 1.5l Magnum
|   WA: 98   |    WS: 100   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"Another profound effort from Haut-Brion, the 2005 (a 9,000-case blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc) has bulked up to the point that it is fair to compare it to the great successes of 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2000. A dark ruby/purple color is followed..

Cheval Blanc St Emilion 2009 750ml
|   WA: 99   |    WS: 98   |    JS: 99   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"It will be fascinating to follow the evolution of the 2009 Cheval Blanc versus the 2010 as well as the awesome 2005, 2000, 1998 and 1990. This famous estate’s vineyard is situated at the juncture of Pomerol and the sandy, gravelly soils of St.-Emilion, facing the two noble estates of..

Ausone St Emilion 2007 1.5L
|   WE: 95   |    WA: 94   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"While there is certainly plenty of wood here, the wine has weight and impressive concentration for the year. The tannins are still brooding away, giving a dark firm character to the wine. Blackberry fruits and acidity are there, but still well buried in the tannins."

Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 2007 1.5L
|   WE: 94   |    WA: 94   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"This is a wine for aging. The tannins are dense, very dry with a feel of extraction. It takes a while for the black currant fruit to show through, with acidity and freshness dominant. The wine is still settling, and time will bring the fruit into line with the tannins."

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion Graves 1975 1.5L Magnum
|   WA: 97   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"This is undisputably the wine of the vintage, a year that was clearly over-exposed and over-rated, largely because it was better than the four vintages that preceded it ... The 1975 La Mission-Haut-Brion, which consistently received perfect scores in its first thirty years of life, remains a..

Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac Premier Grand Cru Classe 1975 3L Double Magnum
|   WA: 90   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"... The wine exhibits a good dark ruby/garnet color, a sweet nose of cedar, chocolate, cassis, and spices, good ripe fruit and extraction, and a weighty, large-scaled, tannic finish ... but this is clearly the second-best Mouton of the decade."

Leoville Las Cases St. Julien 2009 6L
|   WA: 98   |    WS: 98   |    JS: 99   |

Cellar/Tasting Notes
"The 2009 Leoville Las Cases may be the most open-knit and forward Las Cases I have tasted to date. Analytically, it is high in tannin and the alcohol is 13.8%, nearly a record at this estate. This blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc was showing brilliantly at..
