Chateau Moulin de la Roquille is one of the gems of this little-known appellation. The Cuvee 2005 is a blend of Merlot (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%), and Cabernet Franc (15%). After a six week fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months. A nose of red fruits; on the palate, blackberry and cassis fruit flavors dominate, but there are hints of vanilla and freshly cut wood. A medium-bodied wine with a smooth finish and light tannins. Drink now to 2012.

I just tasted this exquisite bargain and, while only able to be labeled Bordeaux Superieur, the chateau & vineyard are located in Macau-en-Medoc, with its vines, contiguous to those of Chateaux Siran and Dauzac in Margaux. And, this wine is totally Margaux in character yet at a price that is a pittance given its sensational quality: A scrumptious, engagingly elegant, full bouquet expresses spring flowers, gobs of sweet macerated red and black cherries and a promise of velvety softness which the wine then totally fulfills in its Margaux- like soft, rich, round, generous flavors. Buy it in multi-case lots!

The first thing that strikes one about the 2005 Clarendelle is the intensity so typical of the vintage. The wine has a fine, rich flavor and considerable concentration on the mid-palate and finish. Relatively high acidity provides wonderful depth and enhances the wine's intrinsic fruitiness. The smooth tannins give it a great, velvety texture. Clarendelle Rouge is simply outstanding.

The vineyard at Chateau Preuillac, which is located in Lesparre-Médoc, to the north of St Estèphe, dates from at least the 19th century. About half the vineyard has clay-limestone and gravel soils. The varieties planted are Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (48%) and Cabernet Franc (2%), with an average age of 35 years. Between the rows of vines the soil is ploughed and there are no chemical herbicides used. Esprit de Preuillac is the second wine of Chateau Preuillac.
Smoky black fruits, scents of vanilla and black currants. Lovely texture and good concentration. Medium body with soft tannins. Classic Medoc.

"Classic, balanced wine with a twist of richness. The black currant flavors are almost jelly-like in their sweetness, although these flavors are well balanced with acidity and a firm layer of dry tannins."
