Altovinum Evodia Old Vine Garnacha Calatayud 2008 Spain 750ml (165642) | WA: NR |
Cellar/Tasting Notes Evodia; the Greek word for "aroma" -- with that being said, it's a perfect name for this wine! Very fresh, straightforward scents of raspberry and blackberry, plus a hint of cracked pepper. Juicy and tannin-free, with spicy red and dark berry flavors and gentle mineral lift. Easy to drink and a superb value, with good finishing bite.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (WA): NR "The vineyards for this new project are between 850 and 1000 meters of elevation and the Garnacha vines are up to 100 years of age, planted on pure slate. Purple-colored, this 100% Garnacha offers a lovely perfume of spice box, mineral, and wild cherry. This leads to an intensely fruity wine with loads of flavor, a smooth texture, and a pure, fruit-filled finish."

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (WA): 90 "The 2009 Montebuena is 100% Tempranillo. Dark ruby-colored, it offers an appealing perfume of spice box, leather, tobacco, and blackberry. On the palate it is packed with ripe fruit, has outstanding concentration, and impeccable balance. It is a great bargain that offers a sneak preview of the great 2009 vintage in Rioja and northern Spain in general. It should drink well for 6-8 years"

DO Emporta 3 Fincas Tinto Crianza 2006 Perelada 750ml (163147)
Cellar/Tasting Notes 2006 Castillo Perelada 3 Fincas Crianza has a bright yet fairly intense red cherry-ruby color with slight garnet reflects on the rime. The nose exposes aromas of mature red fruits, liquorice, mineral and light toasted notes from the oak. The palate is quite fleshy, juicy and balance yet substantial without being heavy due to a great acidity. Present yet fairly integrated young tannins frame and carry, along with the acidity, the ripe red fruit toward the mouthwatering, earthy finish. The tannins are fine and chewy yet a bit young, and could settle down with a bit more time on the bottle. It is a wine that combines a very good mouthful and pleasurable fresh red fruit flavors with a twist of earthiness and slightly oaky, toasted notes.

Burgans Albarino 2008 Rias Baixas 750ml (163470) | WA: 90 |
Cellar/Tasting Notes Burgans is made at the famous Bodega Martin Codax by Luciano Almoedo, perhaps the biggest advocate of the Albarino varietal in Spain. Luciano was extremely influential in obtaining worldwide recognition for not only the varietal, but also Rias-Baixas, where he was the founder and first leader of the AOC. Today, the Bodega has grown considerably and is known as one of the most progressive in the zone. The use of wood is definitively eschewed at the Bodega in order to preserve the natural lift and minerality of the grapes. As such, the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with light lees stirring. The wine is blended by Eric Solomon, working in concert with the property, and is bottled in the spring after harvest.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (WA): 90 “…sprightly nose of mineral, spring flowers, and lemon peel. Ripe, balanced and concentrated…in terms of bang for the buck, it has no challenger.”
